Faith or fear?

Writer: June PetersonJune Peterson

We worry, even though about 99% of what we worry about never comes to pass. We doubt, require evidence, or believe we are in control of life. These people seem to thrive on faith. Maybe it's because they have no choice, or perhaps it is their choice. I tend to live by faith when things are out of my control. Like Monday. In our afternoon class of thirty some women, none of them showed up. We had the afternoon off. And, of course, leadership was upset and set about "fixing" it. I believe that "fixing" is sometimes trying to put God in a box and make Him behave the way we want Him to. God does not respond well when we try to limit the ways in which He works. We left not knowing exactly how it would be resolved... but trusting that God would take care of it. And He did. Yesterday both classes were full without our intervention. So why worry?

I told you about the road system. The main highways are wonderful, landscaped beautifully, with no potholes and I have only seen one stoplight. Drivers are patient and respectful. Dear John, our driver, just pulls out in traffic and they let us in. However, the side streets are "interesting". Some are cobblestone which is like riding over a cattle guard for miles. Sets your teeth to rattling. Then there are the rest of the streets. Filled with gullies, washouts, rocks, pedestrians, other vehicles and bikes, it becomes a challenge to navigate. Our faith has to override our fear. For the first time in my life, I actually appreciate seatbelts! This the road by the teaching compound for Africa New Life.

This morning, Wednesday, we participated in devotions for the ministry leaders. There had to be 100 + people in attendance. So nice to be included and able to participate in the service. Then Susan taught a lesson on shame. Powerful words to help all of us understand that the deceit of Satan has no control over us. The young women received a list of Scriptures telling them who they really were...precious in God's eyes. And we are always blessed with singing and dancing!

Pray for these young women, some single mothers, as they struggle to better their life situation.

Thank you for sharing your daily experiences and thoughts. It takes time and energy to do this and we appreciate it. You are so right about letting God be in control. He is gracious with us to help us realize this is what He desires of us. Complete trust even when things are not what we think they should be. Ithink we call that waiting on Him. Love you sweet friend.
