Home....what?!?
No one to cook my breakfast or make my bed. What is this??? It doesn't take long to get spoiled. I enjoyed the pampering, but it's probably time to get back to work. After I put everything away and do the laundry. Oh, and I can make my own coffee so I can see the bottom of the cup. I drank their stiff brew, but like mine better. Many of the people I traveled with will be off on another trip within weeks if not days. I can't imagine the $$$ involved with that. But if you have

Last day in the south
We began the day with a tour of Tybee Island and the oldest and tallest light house in Georgia. In listening to the history of the lighthouse, one video of a lady told of living there as a child when her father was the light house keeper. They played on the beach, went crabbing every day, and climbed the 178 steps to the top of the tower. It sounded like an idyllic childhood. Today, of course, it is all electronic, so no keeper is needed. (For the record, I did not climb it!)

On to our last stop
We left this morning from the restful, peaceful resort on Jekyll Island. It was wonderful to soak in the sun, listen to the birds sing, and smell the blooming flowers. And we were off to Savanah, Georgia. With one side stop to Driftwood Beach. I just wanted to sit there forever and soak it all up. There is never enough time to do that. And then were were back on the bus to Savanah. I have to admit that I crashed during the trip. We arrived here in time to explore the riverfro

So, this is it...
Well, I've had my taste of how the other half lives and maybe, just maybe I am satisfied with what I have. It's been fun staying in the old resort hotel, eating in the fancy dining room... but when push comes to shove, my little hovel is pretty comfortable. We took a tram tour of the exquisite old homes on the island this morning. Beautiful, stately, and strangely, all built without a kitchen or dining room. They all dressed to the "nines" and ate the resort, not at home. We

Another day in Paradise
First off, this morning we went to see the "Angel Tree", a live oak off the beaten track. It's called an angel tree because its limbs rise upward, and then, when too big and heavy they come back and touch the earth to re-root themselves and rise back up. This particular one is about 65 feet high and 37 feet in circumference. And is about 300 years old . It's covered in Spanish moss and resurrection ferns. The live oak is the state tree of Georgia and if you have one on your

A full day in the south
Correction from yesterday, Charleston is on the Ashley River. Actually, it is an island surrounded by two rivers. Up and at 'em early today. Went to Middleton Plantation to see the formal gardens. Initially owned by one of the founding fathers, he had hundreds of thousands of acres of rice patties. Lots of walking, but beautiful. The owners put in the formal gardens to mimic the ones in England. Saw alligators basking on the banks of the rice paddies. Lots of Spanish moss dri

Off and running one more time
Since I am still upright, I've decided to chance traveling once again. I know, the only time you hear from me is when I'm on the road... or bus in this case. I don't know who books these flights, but they must be morning people. I arrived at the airport at zero-dark-thirty again (4 am). And we were off to Savanah, Charleston, and Jekyll Island via Dallas/Fort Worth. First time on a train to move me to the next gate----Good idea to hang on! And I clung to coat tails of the exp
