Nothing like beginning your last day by oversleeping. I set my alarm, but for later, not earlier as planned. It's a long story of juggling time with a phone that did not reset to Rwandan time. I had the fastest shower ever and managed to make it to breakfast. Packed and unpacked suitcases at least three times... so far.
Began the morning with baptisms on Africa time. Which means someone forgot to tell the pastor that the time had been moved up. So there was lots of singing and rejoicing as we waited. Approximately 35 women chose to be baptized today. There were gasps at the cold water and cheers upon emerging. It was a truly joyful occasion. Following that we handed out their completion certificates, then we had cake and Fanta before being drawn into dancing with them. And, as we left, they sang the song we had so butchered earlier in the week back to us. It's hard to remember them all, but some will be forever pasted into my heart.
At lunch we held a debriefing meeting. Suggestions were made as to how things could be improved or changed. We have nothing but cheers for those taking care of us. From driving, to shopping, to cleaning our dirty shoes---they were all outstanding.
Made a quick trip to a mall. Leslie wanted to get a pair of shoes as a graduation present for her sponsored college student. This would be iffy as to whether you came home with two left feet or different sizes. Both walls the full length of the store had shoes floor to ceiling and maybe half of them had a mate.
Bags are packed and compression socks waiting for the last second. In less than an hour we are off to the airport. First stop Entebbe, Uganda, then Amsterdam, Seattle, and home. See ya in a couple days for the final review of my trip.
