We made it! I now have experienced a "red eye" flight... two actually. I not only lost 9 hours, I skipped a whole season. It's fall here. We are all exhausted but will hit the ground running tomorrow.
Things didn't go without a hitch though. Our plane from Salt Lake was delayed which really threw a monkey wrench our plan to have one hour to change planes in Amsterdam. Then we sat on the tarmac burning fuel to lighten the load as were overweight (we won't go there), while we waited for a longer runway to open up. So now we are over an hour and a half late. We did a lot of praying! Arrived in Amsterdam with 15 minutes to get to the next plane. Prepared to RUN, BEG, and whatever else to get on that plane, God nicely placed it right next door. I had a full five minutes on the ground In Amsterdam!
I did get to see the Mediterranean Sea and the Saraha Desert.... from 38,000 feet, but I did see them! That's one BIG desert! We flew over it for hours.
We arrived in Kigali after dark..........with no luggage, but grateful for small things like the carry-on of necessities I dragged through the airports. Lovely people greeted us with hugs and smiles. Then headed into the "interesting" traffic with motor bikes and round-a-bouts, and twisty mountain roads.
I now understand the meaning of the word "sultry". The air is thick, heavy, syrupy.... right out of a Tennessee Williams play.
More tomorrow. I need to go to bed as it's11 o'clock here but only 3 pm at home.
